EAU Installs Empowered Water Pathogen Intervention System at Murray's Chicken

Online Processing (OLR)

We have recently completed Phase I of our Online Reprocessing (OLR) testing in the poultry industry. With this Phase I testing success in a major processing facility, the USDA is  allowing us to enter into Phase II and III. Given our strong track record of success, we anticipate being OLR approved and able to market without any restriction in the poultry industry, where we will install Empowered Water™ systems as an OLR alternative, and whole plant pathogen remediation package.

Less than half of the 550-plus processing facilities in the U.S. have OLR in their plants. These plants will be our primary target market. Initial results show that while many technologies reduce Gram Negative pathogens, Empowered Water has proven effective in significantly reducing both Gram Negative and Gram Positive pathogens. That and allowing a plant to have OLR will give our solutions a compelling competitive advantage.

Empowering Meat and Poultry Processing

EAU has worked closely with some of the leading industry experts in pathogen intervention. This has allowed us to take what was effective in the university laboratory to real world, high volume applications. None of the competitive alternatives give the food processing industry the range of efficacy combined with the gentle, unadulterating nature that Empowered Water™ solutions provide.

Documented test results in the food processing industry have demonstrated the unprecedented killing effectiveness of EAU’s solutions on surface decontamination and food-borne pathogens. Since 2003 we have focused on introducing our Empowered Water equipment to the poultry industry. Full-plant tests in both large and small processing facilities have proven the commercial viability of our technology. In an industry beleaguered by plant shutdowns, massive recalls and out of control pathogens, EAU solutions offer an effective, ecologically safe alternative—not only for poultry processing, but for the meat and seafood industries as well.

From the Laboratory to the Real World
Our commercially viable technology needs no further approvals to sell as a pathogen intervention system. However, we have learned that to be competitive in an industry with microscopic margins we must clearly differentiate ourselves from the competition. This requires educating the industry about the benefits of using less toxic, equally effective technology having an appealing marketing and public relations advantage. To demonstrate that these long-run benefits will outweigh the initial capital investment in Empowered Water systems, we are focusing on a segment that will allow us to enter the market.

An urgent need exists for safer, effective cleaning and disinfecting alternatives
throughout the food processing industry. This is especially true in the poultry industry, where the most serious threat is caused largely by toxic disinfectants. Due to resistance exhibited by targeted pathogens, these disinfectants allow cross-contamination in the large vats or chillers used during processing, and the option of increasing the concentration of these toxic chemicals to overcome the resistance problem would adulterate the meat, and is therefore not allowed.

Trisodium phosphate, acidified sodium chlorite and quaternary ammoniums are employed to pre-disinfect chicken carcasses prior to the chiller wash. These products are costly, toxic and environmentally harmful. EAU’s technology has been proven more effectual and cost effective than these alternatives—while offering a gentle and safer alternative at the levels used as well.
